Responsibilities
- Prepare and file individual and small business federal and state tax returns (Forms 1040, 1120, 1065, etc.) accurately and in compliance with tax regulations.
- Communicate professionally with clients via phone and email to gather necessary documentation, answer tax-related questions, and explain complex tax situations.
- Utilize tax preparation software (e.g., Lacerte, ProSeries, or TaxSlayer) to input financial data, compute liabilities, and generate returns.
- Review all completed returns for errors, omissions, and potential audit flags before submission.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules required for audits or financial analysis.
- Organize and maintain client files, ensuring all records are secure and accessible.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to provide the most current advice to clients.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in tax preparation or a related accounting role is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of individual and business tax codes, regulations, and filing requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, and familiarity with tax preparation software is a must.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines, especially during peak tax season.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during tax season.
