Responsibilities
- Accurately process and submit medical claims to insurance carriers (CMS-1500 form) in a timely manner.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on unpaid claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Review and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements to identify discrepancies and resolve billing errors.
- Manage patient billing inquiries, explain charges, and assist with payment plans.
- Verify and update patient insurance information and demographic data in the EHR system.
- Generate and analyze monthly financial reports to identify trends in denials and revenue leakage.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify medical necessity and resolve complex coding issues.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Proficient with medical billing software (e.g., Athenahealth, Epic, Cerner, or similar).
- Strong understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to detect errors in data entry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for patient interaction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
