Responsibilities
- Review and verify medical claims (CMS-1500) for accuracy and completeness before submission.
- Follow up on denied or rejected claims to secure reimbursement and minimize write-offs.
- Manage and post patient payments, credits, and adjustments accurately within the billing system.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services rendered.
- Generate and analyze billing reports to identify trends and resolve outstanding accounts receivable.
- Communicate effectively with patients and insurance providers regarding billing inquiries and account status.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Accounting, Medical Billing, or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or a related finance role.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10 coding principles, and payer guidelines.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth) and billing software.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of HIPAA compliance and privacy regulations.
