Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll processing cycle for over 500 employees, ensuring 100% accuracy in data entry and calculations.
  • Maintain strict compliance with federal (FLSA), state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and file all federal and state quarterly and annual payroll tax returns, including reconciliations.
  • Respond to and resolve complex employee payroll inquiries regarding payslips, deductions, tax documents, and direct deposit issues.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to update employee master files, conduct audits, and resolve compensation discrepancies.
  • Analyze payroll reports to identify trends, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for process improvement.
  • Train and mentor junior payroll staff and cross-functional team members on payroll policies and software usage.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive payroll experience in a corporate environment, preferably with multi-state payroll experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources is strongly preferred.
  • Professional certification (CPP or FPC) is a significant plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll tax regulations, including FLSA, ACA, and state-specific labor laws.
  • Advanced proficiency in payroll software (ADP, Workday, or Paychex) and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups).
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a high degree of integrity and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex payroll concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
