We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic finance team in San Diego. In this pivotal role, you will take ownership of our weekly payroll operations, ensuring that every team member is paid accurately and on time. As a Payroll Specialist, you will not only process payroll but also ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will serve as a trusted advisor to our employees regarding payroll inquiries, maintaining a positive and transparent relationship with the workforce.
Responsibilities
- Execute weekly payroll processing for a diverse workforce of over 200 employees with 100% accuracy.
- Calculate and process complex compensation, including commissions, bonuses, overtime, and garnishments.
- Review and validate time and attendance data, resolving discrepancies and audit findings efficiently.
- Prepare and file all required federal and state payroll tax reports (941, state quarterly returns) and W-2s.
- Act as the primary point of contact for employees, answering payroll-related questions regarding pay stubs, deductions, and tax forms.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation to support internal audits and compliance reviews.
- Collaborate with HR and Accounting departments to update payroll policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in payroll processing or a related accounting role.
- Proficiency in payroll software (ADP, Paychex, or QuickBooks) and timekeeping systems is required.
- Strong working knowledge of FLSA regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll tax requirements.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a proven track record of error-free data entry.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot payroll discrepancies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources is preferred.
