Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle payroll process for a diverse employee base, ensuring accurate and timely disbursement of wages.
- Ensure strict compliance with federal, state (DC), and local tax regulations, including FLSA and wage and hour laws.
- Process time and attendance data, resolve discrepancies, and prepare necessary adjustments for payroll.
- Administer payroll-related deductions, including garnishments, 401(k) contributions, and health benefits.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding pay stubs, direct deposits, and tax documentation.
- Assist with year-end payroll tax filings (W-2s, 940s, 941s) and coordinate with external tax vendors.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll records and reconcile payroll accounts to the general ledger.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing or a similar accounting/HR role.
- Proficiency in payroll software (ADP Workforce Now, Ceridian Dayforce, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), FICA tax regulations, and DC-specific payroll mandates.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to handle sensitive financial data with strict confidentiality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff and management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Human Resources is preferred.
