Responsibilities
- Verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information accurately into the billing system.
- Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance payers (electronic and paper) in a timely manner.
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on unpaid claims, and manage claim denials effectively.
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies, coding errors, and patient inquiries regarding statements.
- Collaborate with the collections team to facilitate payment and reduce bad debt.
- Maintain accurate records of billing activities and ensure compliance with HIPAA and federal regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Accounting or Healthcare Administration is a plus.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Proficient in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth, or similar) and MS Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.
